Bands Hitting The Studio In 2012

Michele Jan 20, 2012

Many bands and artists have been entering the studio to start recording new material. With expected release dates scattered throughout the seasons, bands have been keeping fans posted on their studio progress. From new singles to albums, there's a whole lot of music brewing and writing being done.

Various bands who are currently in the studio are working on follow-ups to their releases from the past few years. In addition, others are gearing up to record their debut album and some are just hitting the studio to work on a new single. Whether you're patiently waiting for a new album from your favorite band or a new single to stream, there's at least one release on the horizon for all music genres and fans to look forward to.

New music to look out for in 2012:

Pierce The Veil

Pierce The Veil recently returned from their co-headlining No Guts, No Glory tour with Miss May I. The trek wrapped on Dec. 16 in Portland, Oregon. The band revealed on their Tumblr that they were hard at work writing new songs before and during the No Guts, No Glory co-headliner:

Hey yall, Vic here!  Just wanted to give you a little update on what we’ve been up to lately…But, before I do that, we just want to thank all of our amazing fans for making our recent “No Guts, No Glory” tour the most incredible tour we’ve ever done!!  We can’t thank you enough for waiting hours in the snow and the rain for the shows to start.  And we want you to know how much we appreciate all of the fan letters, gifts, snacks, and the occasional bottle of booze haha!  You are all legends and we love you to death!

OK, so who’s ready for a new PTV album?!?!  Over the summer we locked down a cabin and wrote for a couple months before getting ready to leave for the “No Guts, No Glory” tour.  On that tour we set up a small studio in the back lounge of the bus so that we could continue writing on the road, which is something we’ve never attempted, but it actually turned out to be really fun!  Writing on tour was awesome because it reminded us everyday why we are doing all of this in the first place.  Every time we played a show and every time I read a fan letter, it made us want to write more and more!

We are currently back in our home town of San Diego, California finishing up the songs and trying to pick a producer to record the new stuff.  As we’ve said a million times before, our band is all about progressing with each album and pushing ourselves as hard as we can, almost to the point of going completely insane, to make something that we are all proud of.  The new songs are a product of years of touring, bits of inspiration from all over the world, and every bit of heart and soul that we posses.  Can’t wait for you to hear!  So for now, please hang tight and we’ll try and keep you as updated as possible on the progress.  Love ya!

-Vic

Pierce The Veil's most recent album, Selfish Machines, was released in the summer of 2010. The album featured tracks such as "Caraphernelia" and "Bulletproof Love." The band also had their cover of Bruno Mars' "Just The Way You Are" appear on Punk Goes Pop Vol. 4. Hopefully some of the songs the band have been working on will be making their way onto the third full-length album.

There For Tomorrow

It has been some time since 3OH!3 released their 2008 full-length, Want. The album recently achieved gold status. The band also released three unreleased tracks from the vault including: "Bang Bang," "Set You Free," and "Dirty Mind."

3OH!3 have been in the studio in their home state of Colorado recording their fourth record. As a way to keep fans in the loop, the band have been posting photos from the studio along with updates on Facebook and Twitter.

Frequently asked question, "Is your new album going to be 'dubstep'?" Answer: No, not as such. We're both fans of the genre, and think that over the past years it has opened up some really interesting production elements, sonic textures and format ideas. So are we going to incorporate some of those innovations into our own songs and productions? Sure! We're progressing as artists, and attempting to do so in a way that is faithful to our roots, and also hopefully innovative and interesting. - GO NUGGETS -

A Rocket To The Moon are also currently working on their sophomore record. The upcoming album will follow-up 2009's On Your Side. News of the second record first hit in early December 2011 when frontman Nick Santino posted a blog to the band's official site:

I was a 19 year old kid, excited, lucky and scared to death. The day I signed to Fueled By Ramen was the best day of my entire life. Knowing everything was going to change for me. Every dream I had was coming true. Being able to make music and have a label like FBR support that music to the greatest lengths and highest highs. We released our first full length record 2 years ago. One of my proudest moments was that release day.

Here we are 2 years and a few months later and we are going to start our 2nd full length record. I've never been so proud of something in my entire life. We have written a group of songs for this record that come from the heart. Every word has meaning. Every meaning in every song is so close to us. I think that once you guys hear these songs you will change. Two years may not be a super long time, but weve all grown up and matured. You and I. This record shows that and then some. We start recording it in January with one of the greatest producers out there and it's going to be an amazing experience.

I'm 23 years old, excited, lucky and scared to death, but I know what we have is special and I can't wait to share it with the rest of the world. Here's to 2012 being the year.

- Nick Santino

Since then, the band have been posting studio blog updates, daily statuses on Facebook/ Twitter, and photos from the recording process.

The Ready Set started working on their new album at the beginning of this month. The band's most recent release, Feel Good Now EP, dropped last fall on October 11. A few statuses have surfaced from The Ready Set's Facebook and Twitter page:

Today marks the first day of working on the new album! Good vibes all around.

Not many details are known about the forthcoming album, but fans are sure to be in for a treat when new material arrives.

Additional bands that are hitting the studio to work on new material as of late are Miss May I, No Doubt, and Motion City Soundtrack. Every band has something different up their sleeves and vary in sound. But, one thing they all have in common is new music waiting to be released and heard. Make sure to keep your eyes peeled and ears ready for all of the new music coming this year, these new tracks may just make your playlist for the year and be the next song you hear live in concert.

Which records are you excited for this year?
